Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Currently, the comprehensive training of professionals with a strong social commitment, in accordance with the principles of Cuban socialist society, constitutes an enormous challenge for higher education. In this sense, the personality of Julio Antonio Mella is a necessary reference for the recovery of student leadership in Cuban universities.

Objective: To analyze the importance of Julio Antonio Mella's personality in the Restoration of Student Leadership in Cuban Universities

Methods: A qualitative research study was conducted at Carlos J. Finlay University of Medical Sciences, using interviews and observation as empirical methods. The study involved a sample of 14 student leaders from the aforementioned institution.

Results: Based on the qualitative study conducted and the empirical methods used, it was found that, in general, student leaders have an accurate view of the importance of Julio Antonio Mella's personality in restoring student leadership in Cuban universities. Furthermore, the impact of Mella's personality on the motivation of student leaders to perform their duties with adherence to social commitment and in defense of the principles of the Cuban Revolution was evident.

Conclusions: The research found that Julio Antonio Mella's personality serves as a role model for student leaders in Cuban universities, enabling the development of critical thinking committed to society, under the precepts of the Cuban Revolution and socialism.
