ABSTRACT
Introduction: Medicine in the 21st century is advancing at an unprecedented pace, driven by technological, genomic, and digital innovations. However, this accelerated progress does not occur in an ethical gap; rather, it generates complex dilemmas that strain traditional bioethical principles, specifically in the field of urology.
Objective: To reveal the importance of bioethical reflection in the field of urology at the crossroads of contemporary scientific development.
Methods: The following theoretical methods were used: documentary analysis, systematization, and historical-logical analysis. These methods allowed for the comparison and adoption of other authors' conceptions related to the main bioethical issues in the field of urology at the crossroads of contemporary scientific development.
In addition, scientific articles published in high-impact journals were consulted, from which ten bibliographic references related to the object of study of this research were selected.
Development: Currently, bioethics in the urological context finds itself at a crossroads in the face of contemporary scientific advancements, where the limits of human enhancement and equity in access to medical services are highlighted, requiring a profound ethical and humanistic approach to professional practice. Several theoretical approaches and assumptions related to the social commitment of healthcare workers, specifically in the field of urology, were also addressed.
Conclusions: This study confirmed the importance of bioethical reflection in the field of urology given the crossroads of contemporary scientific development, where a new approach is needed that dignifies the patient and guarantees equity in access to healthcare services, in a context where the future of medicine depends on its capacity to make ethics the very core of human progress.
