Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Medical specialties have emerged since the very emergence of medical education internationally, which aligns the training of physicians with the ever-increasing demands of society.

Objective: To present the origin and evolution of medical specialties associated with healthcare for individuals with risk factors in Durán, Guayas Province.

Methods: A qualitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted, employing theoretical methods such as documentary analysis, systematization, and synthetic analysis.

Development: The rapid development of medical specialties brought the emergence of training programs, which in each country respond to different teaching and cultural traditions, socioeconomic conditions, health problems, and existing diseases. In response to the problems facing humanity, the United Nations established the Sustainable Development Goals, to be achieved by 2030. These goals generate commitments that constitute a shared vision for humanity and a social contract among world leaders and the people.

Conclusions: The origin and evolution of medical specialties in Ecuador are characterized by the expansion of the training spectrum for health professionals, aiming to positively impacting public health with quality, humanism, and academic excellence, serving vulnerable communities, as established in the 2030 Agenda.
