Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Pelvic floor conditions are a health problem in women over 50 years of age, in which physiotherapy has become an effective treatment in the rehabilitation process of this condition, which has an impact on the relief of symptoms and presents a low risk of side effects.

Objective: To explain the social impact of the pelvic floor strengthening exercise program in women over 50 years of age with urinary incontinence at Victoria de Girón School of Medical Sciences.

Methods: Under the dialectical materialist approach, the methods of the logical historical theoretical level, documentary analysis and systematization, and the survey as an empirical method were used. The sample consisted of 30 female workers over 50 years of age who worked full-time at this institution.

Results: The implementation of the pelvic floor strengthening exercise program in women with urinary incontinence enabled 95% reduction in the symptoms associated with this health problem, in which the rehabilitation process had an impact on the improvement of the quality of life, self-esteem and inclusion in social activities of the workers included in the research.

Conclusions: The implementation of the pelvic floor strengthening exercise program for workers over 50 years of age at Victoria de Girón School of Medical Sciences showed positive impact on the quality of life of women with urinary incontinence.
