Maritza Caridad Acosta Nordet: a worthy representative of nursing in Santiago de Cuba

Introduction: Outstanding personalities in various spheres of everyday life are part of the history of a nation, a people or an institution. Currently, the study of their trajectory requires special attention because they become conduct patterns for new generations. The present work proposes an approach to the professional work of Maritza Caridad Acosta Nordet, Bachelor in Nursing, due to her teaching and assistance results in the training of human resources in Santiago de Cuba.
Objective: To describe the most relevant contributions of the professional life of Maritza Caridad Acosta Nordet, Bachelor in Nursing.
Methods: A biographical study was carried out with the use of theoretical methods such as the analytic-synthetic, the historical-logical and the documentary study. Students and teachers of the institution, patients, friends and the Bachelor herself were interviewed.
Results: A life history was built from her origins and childhood, student, family and professional trajectory; assistance, teaching, and research actions, her experience as a collaborator in the international area, main awards and awards received, among other aspects.
Conclusions: The personal, scientific and professional qualities of Maritza Caridad Acosta Nordet ratify her status as an example to consolidate professional identity in new generations of nurses.
