Tomás Romay: life, work and legacy in cuban medicine nowadays

Introduction: Tomás Romay y Chacón is considered one of the best scientists of his time. He stood out for initiating the smallpox vaccination campaign in Cuba. His multiple projections contributed to the formation of the Cuban nationality.
Objective: To value the life and work of Tomás Romay y Chacón in cuban medicine.
Methods: A historical documentary review on the trajectory of this personality was included. Nine bibliographic sources were consulted.
Conclusions: The trajectory of Dr. Tomás Romay y Chacón developed public health in the colonial period. Thanks to the validity of his legacy, he constitutes a distinguished personality in the history of health in Cuba.
